Message from Chancellor Perman - 7-24-25

July 24, 2025
To the Frostburg State Community:
On behalf of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents, I’m delighted to announce the search for Frostburg State University’s next president.
The selection of a university president is among the Board’s most important responsibilities. As the university’s CEO, the president sets your vision and strategic direction. The president inspires academic excellence and attracts the students, faculty, and staff who will sustain it. The president navigates complex financial, political, and social challenges to advance FSU’s mission, optimize your assets and advantages, and position the university for success—now and years from now.
Finding the right president—the president who can ably do all these things—relies on engaging a range of search committee members who bring different perspectives to the task and are dedicated to recommending the strongest pool of candidates. The search committee will consist of faculty, staff, students, and alumni; university leaders and partners; and members of the broader community. Adhering to our USM Guidelines on the Selection of Presidents, the committee will send to me a short list of candidates for the Board’s consideration.
I invite you to nominate people to serve on the search committee. Nominations should be submitted by Friday, August 8.
The search committee will be chaired by Regent Andy Smarick, and assisted by Isaacson, Miller, an executive search firm known for its success in recruiting senior leaders for top U.S. universities. The goal is to have a president installed by next summer.
I’m confident that, together, we’ll assemble a thoughtful committee, one that’s representative of the Frostburg State community and committed to bringing the very best leader to this extraordinary university.
Sincerely,

Jay A. Perman
Chancellor
