The Frostburg State University Department of Music, Theatre and Dance will celebrate the legacy of saxophone inventor Adolphe Sax with a special birthday concert on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall located in the Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center at FSU. The performance, directed by Dr. Brent Weber, will feature an ensemble of university and community saxophonists performing a program themed “Made in America.”

The annual celebration honors the inventor whose innovative instrument has become a prominent voice in classical, jazz, military and popular music traditions. This year's program highlights the richness and diversity of American music through a wide-ranging collection of works that reflect the nation's cultural heritage.

Featured selections include "Baltimore Todolo" by legendary Maryland composer and ragtime pioneer Eubie Blake, the beloved patriotic anthem "America the Beautiful," and Morten Lauridsen's acclaimed choral masterpiece "O Magnum Mysterium," presented in a special arrangement for saxophone ensemble. Audiences will also enjoy the timeless ballpark favorite "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," as well as Gordon Goodwin's energetic and jazz-infused "Hunting Wabbits." Additional selections will further explore the breadth of American musical styles, from folk and patriotic traditions to jazz and contemporary concert music.

The concert provides a unique opportunity for audiences to hear the distinctive sound of a large saxophone ensemble, featuring performers of varying ages and backgrounds.
